Changes at The Mustard Tree

Posted by , on June 25th, 2012

As the eagle-eyed supporter may have have noticed our CEO Paul Wenham is leaving his role at the Mustard Tree.  We have asked him to write a brief ‘goodbye’ and also thought it would be good to hear a little from his successor.

‘After 10 years of being involved with Mustard Tree, firstly as volunteer and for the last 5 years as CEO, I have decided to move on.  Over the last 10 years I have seen Mustard Tree grow and develop into what it is today; a dynamic, exciting and life changing charity.  I have absolutely loved my time here and will be sorry to leave but feel that now is a time for Mustard Tree to step into its next stage of development.

I am hugely grateful for all those who have supported the Mustard Tree over recent years, it has been inspirational to see people from communities across Greater Manchester working together to make it a better place to live.  Finally, I am grateful and have been changed by being part of the colourful, life-filled community that makes up the Mustard Tree.

It is with great pleasure and confidence that I introduce my successor here as Adrian Nottingham.  I have known Adrian for many years and genuinely cannot think of anyone better suited to take Mustard Tree forward.  Adrian has been a supporter of Mustard Tree for many years and knows very clearly what we stand for as a charity.’

We have asked Adrian to briefly introduce himself below:

‘For several years I have observed, supported and admired the work of the Mustard Tree as it has sought to improve and rebuild the lives of the homeless and marginalised people of Manchester. I feel both honoured and humbled to have been given the opportunity to join the team of staff, volunteers and supporters.

Previously I have worked in the health sector, in local government, and in the voluntary sector. I love being part of a team and am inspired by what can be achieved by good people with a clear vision and a ‘can do’ attitude. I am looking forward to seeing and hearing more and more stories of hope and transformation emerge as the Mustard Tree continues to do what it is ‘called’ to do.’

Adrian starts at the Mustard Tree on 16th July 2012 his email will be adrian@mustardtree.co.uk

Mustard Tree recognised at BITC’s Awards For Excellence

Posted by , on June 20th, 2012

We enjoy a great partnership with national organisation Business in The Community and work alongside their local Business Action on Homelessness team.  Together we run weekly job clubs and have recently run the pilot employment scheme Get Ready!

Last Thursday we attended their North West Awards for Excellence evening with businesses and community from across the region represented.  It was a great evening with inspiring stories of what businesses can achieve when working with and within local communities, there were also brilliant performances by the Northern Ballet School and 2 rappers from the Contact Theatre.

To top off a fantastic evening, Mustard Tree’s Chief Executive, Paul Wenham, was awarded the Sieff Award, recognising Mustard Tree’s collaboration with business for the benefit of our local communities.   Paul commented “I am chuffed to accept this award on behalf of the whole Mustard Tree team.  We have the privilege of working alongside a range of local businesses who add huge value to what we do.  Local businesses have helped transform our garden, meeting rooms and shop,  acted as mentors, job coaches and board members and have provided training and work placements for many of our service users.  We are committed to seeing people from all walks of life working together and making Greater Manchester an even better place to live’.
