Health and Wellbeing Facilitators
We are looking for Volunteers to facilitate or support our fitness and wellbeing classes at Mustard Tree’s Little Hulton site.
Since 1994, Mustard Tree has transformed the lives of people in Greater Manchester who are trapped in poverty or homelessness, by enabling them to gain the skills and self-confidence they need to reach their full potential.
Mustard Tree’s Health and Wellbeing Programmes
At Mustard Tree we believe health and wellbeing sessions can have a profound effect in encouraging progression and supporting development for our participants, who face multiple and significant disadvantage. These sessions provide the structure and supportive environment participants need to explore their health and wellbeing goals, ultimately helping them to develop the self-confidence and resilience they need to be a connected, valued and contributing member of society.
Summary of Role
You will be utilising your skills, talents and knowledge in leading or supporting the facilitator in providing accessible fitness and wellbeing classes. You can help people who have been unemployed for a long time, experiencing poverty or homelessness, to grow in self-confidence as they learn new skills and develop new relationships.
Who will I be helping?
You will be working alongside and helping people who are homeless, those suffering from addiction or poor mental health, asylum seekers or those with an offending background. Your life skills and work experience will be invaluable to helping people to gain the skills and confidence they need to be a connected, valued and contributing member of society.
How does this role make a difference?
You will be supporting people who have additional barriers to moving on in life, helping them to grow in self-confidence and enabling them to express themselves in a healthy way.

What will you be doing?
- Planning and leading weekly health and wellbeing sessions
- Providing support to people as they learn new skills and develop in community.
What are we looking for?
- Able to treat others with respect and a positive, non-judgemental attitude.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
- A passion for writing and passing on your skills and knowledge to others.
- Able to motivate vulnerable adults to make progress and take on new challenges.
- Qualifications in creative writing would be an advantage, but not essential.
What is the time commitment?
We ask that volunteers commit to one weekly session – This will be confirmed with our Creative Programmes Coordinator.
Disclosure and Barring Service Check:
A Disclosure and Barring Service Check (formerly CRB check) will be required as part of this role. This is free of charge for applicants.
How will you be supported?
You will be overseen by the Creative Programmes Coordinator. The Volunteer Coordinator is also available to support you as you volunteer with us.
We are able to refund travel expenses.
- Application received and references are requested.
- Applicant is invited in for a chat with the Creative Programmes Coordinator and/or the Volunteer Coordinator.
- Applicant is invited to attend a volunteer introduction session and observe a class.
- If all goes well for both the team and the applicant, a DBS check will be processed and you’re ready to go!
