Leave a gift in your will
For most of us, our will is one way of looking after the people we care about, a way of still caring for our loved ones once we have gone.
After you have taken care of your family and friends, a gift to Mustard Tree, however small, would help to transform the lives of people who are trapped in poverty or homelessness.
Why should I make a will?
Having an up-to-date will is the only way to make sure that your family and friends, and any charities you care about, are provided for in the way you wish.
What basic information do I need to include when I’m leaving a gift in my will to Mustard Tree?
The most important bits of information to include are our name, our address and our registered charity number:
110 Oldham Road,
Charity number: 1135192
Do I need a solicitor?
Officially no, but it’s probably best to. ‘Do it yourself’ wills can cause problems if details are left out or wording is not correct.
How do I choose a solicitor?
In England and Wales, go to lawsociety.org.uk, or call 020 7242 1222.In Scotland, contact the Law Society of Scotland at lawscot.org.uk, or call 013 1226 7411.
Are there different ways I can leave a gift?
Yes. There are three main types of gift:
Residuary gift: The whole or a percentage of your estate after providing for loved ones and covering administrative expenses.
Pecuniary gift: A fixed sum of money
Specific gift: A specific item of value, such as an item of property, a piece of jewellery or a painting.
What if my circumstances change?
A good solicitor will make sure your will is worded to take account of any changes in your circumstances – such as a birth, marriage, or a change in your finances.
