Mustard Tree recognised at BITC’s Awards For Excellence

Posted by , on June 20th, 2012

We enjoy a great partnership with national organisation Business in The Community and work alongside their local Business Action on Homelessness team.  Together we run weekly job clubs and have recently run the pilot employment scheme Get Ready!

Last Thursday we attended their North West Awards for Excellence evening with businesses and community from across the region represented.  It was a great evening with inspiring stories of what businesses can achieve when working with and within local communities, there were also brilliant performances by the Northern Ballet School and 2 rappers from the Contact Theatre.

To top off a fantastic evening, Mustard Tree’s Chief Executive, Paul Wenham, was awarded the Sieff Award, recognising Mustard Tree’s collaboration with business for the benefit of our local communities.   Paul commented “I am chuffed to accept this award on behalf of the whole Mustard Tree team.  We have the privilege of working alongside a range of local businesses who add huge value to what we do.  Local businesses have helped transform our garden, meeting rooms and shop,  acted as mentors, job coaches and board members and have provided training and work placements for many of our service users.  We are committed to seeing people from all walks of life working together and making Greater Manchester an even better place to live’.

If you or your business would like to find out more about working with The Mustard Tree please  contact Paul or Johnny – paul@mustardtree.co.uk or johnny@mustardtree.co.uk  0161 228 7331

Go Hungry

Posted by , on January 24th, 2012
We have had the pleasure of working with Adrian Bentley of Just Good Ideas and three students from Salford University and together have come up with the Go Hungry Campaign.  We are going to give it a go next week and hopefully make it a regular feature of our yearly calendar.  While the aim is to raise much needed funds for the work of the Mustard Tree we also want to distribute some of the funds raised to some of the other excellent homeless charities across Greater Manchester.  The idea is explained below:

Go Hungry is asking people to skip lunch for one day during the Poverty & Homelessness Action Week (28th January – 5th February), and simply donate the money they otherwise would have spent. We aim to engage people to consider their own lives and actions in contrast to the day to day lifestyle of the disadvantaged population, who usually do not have the option of deciding whether to eat or not.

Creativity at The Mustard Tree

Posted by , on December 21st, 2011

At the Mustard Tree we are strong believers in the impact that creativity can have on the recovery and rebuilding process.  During the week we  host a range of creative workshops and groups including: drama, art, mosaics, Acting on Impulse, knitting, sewing, ladies creativity, guitar and craft.

Much of this is coordinated and supported by our artist in residence, Graham Hudson (see a bit of his story in the video below).  Graham is an artist and has a workshop space at Mustard Tree, he has recently been working on portrait work which we thought were worth sharing, two are posted here.

If you’d like to see his works in person, Graham is very happy to show visitors around in between classes, just contact Graham on artistgraham@gmail.com.  Much of his work is also for sale.

Lloyds Team Make the News

Posted by , on June 9th, 2011

A few weeks ago we had a team of 40 bankers from Lloyds come and volunteer for a day.  It had a great impact on us as they lent their energies into various of our projects and we hope many went away inspired and challenged.

It was a real pleasure having such a committed team of volunteers who mucked in and got their hands dirty.

If you click this link you’ll find an article from Manchester Business Week about their efforts.

If you are interested in a day of team building doing something worthwhile please contact lydia@mustardtree.co.uk or paul@mustardtree.co.uk
